Objectifs du programme

This program develops in students competencies common to various occupations involved in health and social services in Nunavik (Northern Québec). It provides the basic tools prerequisite to more advanced training in health and social services. More specifically, students are able:

. to meet basic client needs related to food, clothing, personal hygiene and safety

. to help clients with physical or psychosocial problems by welcoming them, identifying their needs, and referring them to appropriate resources

. to act as interpreters

. to organize and facilitate community activities, prevention or support groups, and information sessions

. to carry out administrative tasks such as making appointments, completing questionnaires, filing documents and producing reports.

Conditions d'admission et préalables

To be admitted to the Health and Social Services Assistance in Nunavik program, students must meet the following conditions:

Persons holding a Secondary School Diploma or its recognized equivalent, for example, an Attestation of Equivalence of Secondary V studies, or a postsecondary diploma such as the Diploma of College Studies or a Bachelor's degree, and having a good knowledge of Inuktitut.
OR
Persons who are at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year in which their training is to begin, have a good knowledge of Inuktitut and have earned the Secondary III credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister, or have been granted recognition of equivalent learning.
OR
Persons who are at least 18 years of age upon entry into the program, have a good knowledge of Inuktitut and have successfully completed the general development test, or have been granted recognition of equivalent learning.

Note: For programs of study in this category, persons may continue their general education courses concurrently with their vocational training provided that they have a good knowledge of Inuktitut and have earned at least the Secondary III credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs established by the Minister or they are at least 18 years of age and have successfully completed the general development test (GDT).

Health and Social Services Assistance in Nunavik

Les assistantes et les assistants à la clientèle des services sociaux et de santé au Nunavik aident les clientèles du Grand Nord québécois aux prises avec des problèmes physiques ou psychosociaux en les orientant vers les ressources appropriées. Ils assistent les personnes en matière d’alimentation, d’habillement, d’hygiène personnelle ou de sécurité. Ils peuvent agir comme interprètes, organiser des activités communautaires, animer des groupes de prévention ou de support ainsi que des sessions d’information. Dans le cadre de leurs fonctions, ils peuvent avoir à effectuer des tâches administratives. C’est un métier essentiel valorisant qui demande de la patience et de l’écoute. Un emploi à titre d’assistant à la clientèle des services sociaux et de santé au Nunavik exige du dévouement, un bon jugement et la capacité à faire preuve d’initiative.
