FAQ 7
Why would my company want to offer a practicum?
A trainee in a work-study program is a plus for any company. The benefits are immediate and concrete. A pool of qualified labour By accepting trainees, a company can - readily screen the best candidates for its needs; - build a pool of competent labour and hence reduce recruitment costs. Innovative and constructive ideas Because trainees in a work-study program are still in school, - they have information to share about new technologies or approaches that can improve production; - they may have original ideas that can benefit the company. Positive spinoffs In addition to the work performed by the trainee, companies benefit from the positive spinoffs of community service and the resulting publicity, and they also get an opportunity to develop new strategic partnerships.
Dynamic trainees
Trainees in a work-study program - benefit from company expertise; - are more motivated at school, which improves their chances of success; - find jobs more easily when they finish school; - get the benefit of using company equipment; - learn about the reality of the trade or technology they are studying and can quickly figure out if they have made the right career choice. A better-prepared work force In the longer term, companies will have the benefit of a better-prepared work force as work-study programs become more and more popular. Graduates of work-study programs already have concrete work experience in their trade or technology when they enter the labour market. They are thus productive more rapidly; it takes less time and costs less to integrate them into the company. |
