Objectifs du programme

The aim of the Prehospital Emergency Care program is to prepare students to practise the occupation of ambulance technician.

Ambulance technicians provide assistance to individuals of all ages and in all conditions who require prehospital emergency services with a view to reducing morbidity and mortality. They are responsible for providing, among other things, primary medical care, trauma care, care related to behavioural disorders, and other types of care. This includes the professional activities identified in the Regulation respecting the professional activities that may be engaged in within the framework of pre-hospital emergency services. Ambulance technicians are also trained to respond to accidents, antisocial acts, and to specific situations.

Total length of training includes general training that is common to all programs for 420 hours, general training for this program for 150 hours as well as complementary general training courses for 90 hours.

Duration of training consists of theory and lab work for courses; personal time that the student invests is excluded.

Technicien ambulancier

Les techniciennes ambulancières et les techniciens ambulanciers déplacent les personnes et les transportent sécuritairement à l’hôpital. Ils analysent les problèmes de santé ou les blessures chez les personnes en situation d’urgence et donnent des soins préhospitaliers d’urgence pour des situations de traumatismes, de détresses respiratoires, d’intoxications, etc. Dans le cadre de leurs fonctions, ils effectuent des transferts entre divers centres hospitaliers. C’est un métier essentiel qui exige une excellente condition physique et une bonne résistance au stress. Une carrière comme technicien ambulancier demande également de l’empathie, un excellent jugement et un esprit d’initiative.
