Sheet metal workers fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal and metal components on construction sites. Using plans, sketches, and patterns, they cut, shape, bend, and assemble metal parts with hand tools and metal-working machines. They install metal cladding, wall panels, roofing elements, as well as components of air handling, recovery, and exhaust systems.
The work is carried out mainly on institutional, commercial, and industrial construction sites, in compliance with occupational health and safety standards. The sheet metal worker trade requires precision, attention to detail, and good manual dexterity. It is well suited to people who are autonomous, able to work as part of a team, comfortable working at heights, and capable of reading plans, visualizing spatial layouts, and performing calculations related to metal work.
