Leaving the African continent and one’s home in Cameroon to study in Québec, Canada, is an adventure in itself. It becomes a journey of courage and audacity when one chooses a traditionally male sector. This is the story of 21-year-old Doria Togou, a student in Computing Support at the Centre de formation professionnelle Marie-Rollet.

Frédérick Lamontagne, using the garage as a classroom

The garage is like a second home to her, and she has found her passion working as a mechanic. A know-how passed down from her parents that she perfected at the Centre De Formation En Mécanique De Véhicules Lourds. From the classrooms where she was able to assert herself with intelligence and know-how, to the garage where she puts into practice the skills she has acquired, Frédérick Lamontagne is a remarkable example of perseverance and proficiency.

Mélanie Prévost, passing on a passion for plumbing from father to daughter

Mélanie Prévost is one of our Tradeswomen Trailblazers, a true leader in the field of plumbing and heating for over twenty years. While she started in plumbing, she then decided to specialize in heating. Clients were expecting the father, but they got the daughter instead. She is now a teacher at the École Polymécanique de Laval and is taking a look back on her journey.

Dès son enfance, Tanya Labonté a baigné dans l'univers de la construction. Pourtant, ce n'est qu'après avoir exploré d'autres voies qu'elle a trouvé sa véritable passion: «J'avais envisagé une carrière en soins infirmiers, mais ce n'était pas pour moi. J'avais besoin d'un travail plus manuel, moins dans le soutien émotionnel, et où je pouvais voir concrètement le fruit de mes efforts.»

Le traîneau du Père Noël, ce n’est pas un bricolage du dimanche : c’est un gros travail d’équipe mené par des spécialistes qui touchent autant au bois qu’au métal, à l’électricité, au confort et même à l’aérodynamique.
